The Night Office

May the Lord Almighty grant us and those we love a peaceful night and a perfect end. Our help is in the Name of the Lord; the maker of heaven and earth.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father: We have sinned against you, through our own fault, in thought, and word, and deed, in what we have done and what we have left undone. For the sake of your Son our Lord Jesus Christ, forgive us all my offenses; and grant that we may serve you in newness of life, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Glory be to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, so it is now and so it shall ever be, world without end. Alleluia. Amen.

O LORD our Governor, how exalted is your Name in all the world! Out of the mouths of infants and children your majesty is praised above the heavens. You have set up a stronghold against your adversaries, to quell the enemy and the avenger. When we consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars you have set in their courses, What is man that you should be mindful of him? the son of man that you should seek him out? You have made him but little lower than yourself; you adorn him with glory and honor; You give him mastery over the works of your hands; you put all things under his feet: All sheep and oxen, even the wild beasts of the field, The birds of the air, the fish of the sea, and whatsoever walks in the paths of the sea. O LORD our Governor,* how exalted is your Name in all the world!

Into your hands, O Lord, we commend our spirits; For you have redeemed us, O Lord, O God of truth. Keep us, O Lord, as the apple of your eye; Hide us under the shadow of your wings.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your Name. May your kingdom come, and your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for yours are the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love’s sake. Amen.

Lord, you now have set your servant free to go in peace as you have promised; for these eyes of mine have seen the Savior, whom you have prepared for all the world to see: a Light to enlighten the nations, and the glory of your people Israel. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
