Our Mid-Day Prayer

Open my lips, O LORD and my mouth shall proclaim your praise. I would surrender my dearest possessions or destroy all that I prize to prove my regret, but we know that you don’t take any pleasure in sacrifices or burnt offerings.

Explore us, O Father, and know what we really are. Dig deeply and discover who we are. Go ahead and put us to the test and watch how we handle the strain. We are your servants; we are your servants and the children of your handmaid; you have freed us from what has enslaved us.

Father, we realize that the hope of the godless is like chaff carried on the wind, like fine spray driven by the storm; it disperses like smoke before the wind, goes away like the memory of a one-day guest. But because of you, the upright live forever, and you take care of them. So we will receive a glorious crown and the diadem of beauty from your hand; you will shelter us with your right hand and with your arm you will shield us.

Do not sweep us away with sinners, nor our life with those who thirst for blood, Whose hands are full of evil plots, and their right hand full of bribes. As far as we go, we will live with integrity; redeem us, O LORD, and have pity on us. Our feet stand on level ground; in the full assembly we will bless you.

Father, we acknowledge that you gave your only Son to die for our sins and to rise for our justification: So now, please give us grace so to put away the leaven of malice and wickedness, we will always serve you in pureness of living and truth; through Jesus Christ your Son and our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

O Father, the source of eternal light: Shed forth your unending day on all of us who watch for you, that our lips may praise you, our lives may bless you, and our worship may give you glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
