A Mid-Day Prayer

Father, today like many days, we need to remain strong and our hearts need to find courage. We must draw our hope and strength from you, and from you alone! With our whole hearts we seek you; please don’t let us stray from your commandments. We cry out to you, O LORD; and proclaim, “You are our refuge, our portion in the land of the living.”

We know very well how you love those who hate evil! How you protect the lives of your faithful followers; and deliver them from the power of the wicked, and we thank you. And Lord, you have always been fair whenever we impulsively complain to you. However, we need to talk with you about the disposition of justice. Please be patient with us, but we need to know these things.

Why are wicked people being successful? Why does it seem that all of the dishonest people have such easy lives? You plant them like trees and they put down their roots and grow prosperous and are very fruitful. They are always talking about you, but they really care nothing about you.

Aah, but Lord, you know all about us. You watch us and test our devotion to you. Please drag these wicked men away like sheep to be slaughtered! Appoint a time when they will be killed! How long must the land be parched and the grass in every field be withered? How long must the animals and the birds die because of the wickedness of the people who live in this land? These people boast, “God will not see what we do” (Jeremiah 12:1-4)

Well, once again LORD, we know that you love those who hate evil and preserves the lives of the saints and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.

Well, please do not drag us away with evil men, with those who behave wickedly, who talk so friendly to their neighbors, while they plan to harm them! Pay them back for their evil deeds! Pay them back for what they do! Punish them! Because they don’t understand your actions, or the way you carry out justice. You deserve praise, because you have heard our pleas for mercy!

O Father, come to our rescue! Lord, make haste to help us! Along with all of you people we pray,

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your Name. May your kingdom come, and your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for yours are the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever! Amen!

Lord, mercifully receive our prayers whenever we call upon you, and allow us to know and understand what things we need to do, and also grant us the grace and power to faithfully accomplish them; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. ~Nickolas HiemstraA
